Following a series of deadly ship crashes caused by navigational errors in the early 1700s, John Harrison, a wood-carpenter from the U.K., designed the world's first accurate clock to calculate longitude at sea. The usage of clocks has since spread across the world, providing structure to nearly everyone's life.

Accurate Clocks
Humanity overcame countless disasters before this.
While many innovations are implemented at governmental levels, they all started from individuals efforts.
See how others are advancing their communities amidst COVID-19:

Distance learning will soon begin for more than 30 million Mexican school children. In preparation, the country’s largest TV networks plan to put educational instruction on TV. Some 140 million free textbooks will be distributed, and homes that have no TV can listen to classes broadcast via radio.

As more people continue to cycle to work instead of using public transit or cars, Bike2Box has come up with a way to easily convert 1 standard parking garage space into bicycle parking for 12 bikes. With 16 parking spaces, there's enough room to park 192 bikes.

The Virgin Money Unity Area is the UK's first dedicated socially distanced music venue. It redefines the idea of an outside summer concert with space for 2,500 spectators on 500 spaced-out viewing platforms.

This conceptual device designed by @_rkrause_ is for daily internal business and employee temperature scanning. Employees would create a profile via facial recognition. The scanner would then log their daily temperatures and facial changes that could indicate sickness.

@AcceptProceed has re-imagined what football might look like with social distancing measures in place. Their design for "Keep Your Distance" football fields utilize a zoned pitch, promoting a Tiki Taka, precision passing type game.

MIT has put one of its research projects to work providing disinfection services to slow the spread of COVID-19 at The Greater Boston Food Bank while still allowing it to provide services to its patrons. The robot can disinfect surfaces and surrounding air that might have traces of COVID-19.

School students return to their studies using repurposed voting ballot boxes as protective shields against COVID-19. The Thai government has eased isolation measures, with schools allowed to reopen under strict social distancing measures such as these.

A rotating type of hydroponic farm that was used to grow local vegetables after the nuclear disaster in Fukushima poisoned large tracts of farmland. This indoor growing system nourishes seedlings with a liquid diet of phosphate and other minerals. Sheltered beneath a translucent pressure dome, crops can be harvested year-round.
